WordPress is only as good as the box it runs on. Hosting decides whether a traffic spike is a good day or an outage.
What to require
Current PHP, HTTPS, daily backups you can restore yourself, and a support channel that answers. Staging is worth more than a fancy control panel.
Types
Shared is fine for a brochure. Managed WordPress pays for itself when updates and malware are someone else’s night. A VPS is for people who already run servers.
Rule
Pick the host for restore time, not for the advertised “unlimited” word. Unlimited that dies under a crawl is not unlimited.
